Carbon and nutrient stocks of three Fabaceae trees used for forest restoration and subjected to fertilization in Amazonia Anais da ABC (AABC)
JAQUETTI,ROBERTO K.; GONÇALVES,JOSÉ FRANCISCO C..
ABSTRACT Amazonia is crucial to global carbon cycle. Deforestation continues to be one of the main causes of the release of C into the atmosphere, but forest restoration plantations can reverse this scenario. However, there is still diffuse information about the C and nutrient stocks in the vegetation biomass. We investigated the carbon and nutrient stocks of Fabaceae trees (Inga edulis, Schizolobium amazonicum and Dipteryx odorata) subjected to fertilization treatments (T1 - no fertilization; T2 - chemical; T3 - organic; and T4 - organic and chemical fertilization) in a degraded area of the Balbina Hydroelectric Dam, AM - Brazil. As an early successional species, I. edulis stocked more C and nutrients than the other two species independent of the...

Energetic flux and performance index in copaiba (Copaifera multijuga Hayne) and mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) seedlings grown under two irradiance environments Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Gonçalves,José F.C.; Santos Jr.,Ulysses M.; Nina Jr.,Adamir R.; Chevreuil,Larissa R..
Plant adaptation under conditions of limited irradiance can be investigated by their efficiency while using the available energy with a minimal thermodynamic energy loss. For this reason, we compared the energetic fluxes and the performance index (PI ABS) in copaiba (Copaifera multijuga) and mahogany (Swietenia macrophyla) seedlings under both sunlight and shade. The experiment was carried out in Manaus (3º8'S, 59º52'W), Amazonas State, Brazil. The fluorescence transients were obtained in intact and healthy leaves using a Plant Efficiency Analyser (PEA) between 1200 h and 1300 h. Using the O-J-I-P test, the following parameters were calculated: 1) density of reaction centers per cross section (RC/CS), 2) maximum quantum yield for primary photochemistry of...

Estimates of genetic parameters and variability in provenances and progeny of Handroanthus vellosoi PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Batista, Camila Moreira; Freitas, Miguel Luiz Menezes; Moraes, Marcela Aparecida de; Zanatto, Antonio Carlos Scatena; Santos, Pedro César dos; Zanata, Marcelo; Moraes, Mario Luiz Teixeira de; Sebbenn, Alexandre Magno.
The present study aimed at estimating genetic parameters and variability among and within provenances for silvicultural traits of Handroanthus vellosoi (Toledo) Mattos, in provenances and progenies test stands, located at the Luiz Antônio Experimental Station (São Paulo State, Brazil). The test was established in the compact family block design, with two provenances (allocated in the plots), six replicates and sub-linear plots of five plants, totalizing 35 progenies. Diameter at breast height (DBH), plant height, cylindrical volume, stem form and survival at 24 years of age were evaluated. Significant differences among the provenances were observed only to the trait stem form. The analysis of deviance showed significant differences among progenies for the...

(Heliocarpus popayanensis Kunth (Malvaceae) tolera a hipoxia do substrato?)

Seedling growth of fifteen Brazilian tropical tree species differing in successional status Rev. Bras. Bot.
Souza,Rogéria P.; Válio,Ivany F.M..
Growth of seedlings of fifteen tropical tree species representative, at the adult stage, of different successional positions, was studied under field conditions. Seedlings were grown in three treatments: full sun (FS), artificial shade imposed by neutral screens (AS) and natural shade imposed by a closed canopy in a Forest Reserve in Southeast Brazil (NS). Most of the studied species survived in both shade treatments, although their growth was severely affected. Decreases in height, internode numbers, dry weight, leaf area, root:shoot ratio (R:S) and increases in leaf mass ratio (LMR), leaf area ratio (LAR) and specific leaf area (SLA) were common responses to shade. Relative growth rates (RGRs) and net assimilation rates (NARs) were consistently lower in...
